Our Amazing Area
Devon Dens is perfectly placed to enjoy some of the jewels in the South West’s crown. Located in West Devon—just ten minutes from the A30— which is definitely the quieter side of the county, there are the temperate rainforests and deep valleys of Dartmoor to explore, with expanses of rugged moorland and picture perfect villages (often with a decent pub!). The moor offers endless walking opportunities and excellent cycling routes too. If wild swimming is your thing, take your pick of the pure pools to immerse yourself in for an elemental hit.
Drive forty minutes west, and you’ll hit the North Cornish coast, with some of the best beaches in the UK – Bude, Sandymouth, Northcott, Widemouth, Welcombe, you choose. Bude is closest, with great surf, safe paddling for little ones and the fabulous sea pool which is free and open year round. It has everything you want from a seaside town – ice cream, great pasties, restaurants, crazy golf and shopping. On a sunny day, go early and spend the day there.
Closer to home, there are National Trust castles and gorges or enjoy a car free day walking from the gate along quiet lanes and wooded footpaths. The Devon Dens app has all the info you need to plan your stay and your route, with maps and suggestions of days out near and far. There’s also the option to pre-order local produce – cheese, cake, meat, organic milk and eggs. We’re keen as mustard to show off the delicious treats grown and produced nearby, and there’s often herbs and salad to pick onsite from the polytunnel in The Woodland Garden. So if you’re looking for one of the top places to stay in Devon, you found us!
